Sensual, Party Alone Series

Laurie Kang was one of our early residency award winners and we remember our time with her at the studio fondly. During her stay with us Laurie worked on several collage pieces, as well as a few images from her Party Alone Series. Since staying with us Laurie has been exhibiting works in Toronto and Montreal and recently won the Duke and Duchess of York Prize in Photography. In an interview with Plaid Magazine Laurie explains her relationship with collage and photography and the overlap that happens between the two:

“Adding collage to it has been a natural progression in negotiating the challenges of photography. I’ve always approached making images with a collage-like mentality even though it wasn’t (literally) apparent, constructing and layering the subject matter of the photographs.”

Fun things that have happened in the past two weeks:

Picton Gazette, Yarn Bomb, Community Project, Public Art

The Times, Newspaper, Article, Yarn Bomb, Spark Box, Public Art, Nell Casson, Linda Cunningham

We had two mentions in the local news regarding our yarn bomb installation with Linda Cunningham. Both were great articles about the project.

Susan Wallis, Calen Wallis, Book Art, Wax, DiscARTed, Prince Edward County, Art Show

Loved these cake books by Susan and Calen Wallis

Jan Sweason, Nakita Russillo, Books and Company, DiscARTed, Art Show, Prince Edward County

Thought these works were great, tree piece by Jan Sweason and paper towers by Nakita Russillo

Nell Casson, DiscARTed, Picton, Prince Edward County, Collage, Books and Company

Nell's collage work

We attended the opening of DiscARTed an art exhibition located on the top floor of Books and Company. The organizers invited local artists and crafts people to re-invent books which were going to be discarded. The show has been well received and there were several interesting pieces.

Wedding, Tamara Sponder, Adrian Capenter, Prince Edward County

I was also in another wedding this past weekend. It was our dear friends Adrian and Tamara (you may remember Tamara from other posts about the studio as she is a former SBS resident).

Wedding Crashers, Piano on Fire, Party

We also crashed a birthday party in our wedding attire … and there was an epic piano fire. Made for great pictures.
