RESIDENCY PROGRAM
The Artist in Residency Program provides live/work space to accommodate both emerging and professional artists. Come stay with us at our residence and create art at Spark Box Studio.
OPEN STUDIO PROGRAM
The Open Studio is a great opportunity for visual artists to have access to a communal studio space and printmaking or darkroom equipment.
YOUTH PROGRAM
A focus of Spark Box Studio is to assist regional youth to build their artist skills and become aware of career options within the arts. Here you will find information on our resource guide for applying to art school and youth volunteer opportunities.
WORKSHOP PROGRAMS
Each month Spark Box Studio offers exciting courses and workshops in a variety of different mediums. We try to change up the selection of workshops every month to keep them new and exciting.
PRIVATE ART LESSONS
We teach private art lessons. These lessons are structured on individual needs and are designed to be flexible in schedule.
RESIDENCY PROGRAM
Spark Box Studio’s Artist Residency Program provides live/work space to accommodate both emerging and professional printmakers, photographers, painters, illustrators and writers. Artists-in-residence have access to our professional studio and resources. The Residency Program affords artists the space and time to support the advancement of their careers and to strengthen their practice. Our program also offers a variety of career building opportunities for artists including our Emerging Artist Guide, opportunities for business workshops with local professionals and consultations with local artists and curators.
Artists-in-residence stay with us, Chrissy and Kyle, in a charming Victorian house located by the historic Picton Harbour in Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada. Interested artists may apply to live and work at Spark Box for a duration of one weekend to 2 months.
ARTIST RESIDENCY
Weekend – 100.00
One week – 275.00 + tax
Two week -450.00 + tax
Three week -525.00 + tax
One month -650.00 + tax
Two month- 1,100.00 + tax
Residents using the print studio or photography studio will be subject to equipment and supply fees. The material fees will cover in-house items such as inks, chemicals, rags, blades, scrappers, etc. We also have materials for sale to print artists (ie. paper, plates, emulsion, waterless lithography plates, copper, etc.).
APPLICATION
Artists that are interested in the residency program should fill out the Application Form below. Or you may download the Application Form PDF and apply by mail. Please review the required documents and specifications located at the bottom of the Application Form.
Please send the following materials:
1. Application Form
2. Artist Statement (1-2 paragraphs explaining your work)
3. Current CV
4. Please send 10 images on CD or by email. Images should be MAC compatible in JPG, TIFF or PSD file.
Images should be no smaller than 200 DPI and should measure 8” x 8”. If sending through email
please compress files so that they are between 500-1500 KB.
5. Please send a list of all images which includes title, medium, dimension, year.
6. Writing samples should not exceed 12 pages and should be sent with cover page stating your name and title of work.
7. $15.00 application fee payable to Spark Box Studio (CAD dollars)
Note: You must remit the application fee before we will process your application fee. You can mail a cheque, or PAY ONLINE.
OPEN STUDIO
OPEN STUDIO
Our Open Studio is a great opportunity for visual artists to have access to a communal studio space and printmaking or darkroom equipment. Access to the printmaking and darkroom equipment will be determined by the artists technical training and ability to work independently in the studio. Participants of the printmaking workshops are eligible to participate in the open studio program.
The Open Studio program is for independent work without supervision or guidance.
Open Studio hours are Tuesday – Saturday, from 12 – 6 PM.
Day $25 + tax
Week $80 + tax
Month $200 + tax
Six Months $650 + tax
One Year $1,000 + tax
10 Day Pass $150 + tax (may be used consecutively or intermittently)
*Included in the open studio program price is the use of our equipment, emulsions, cleaning chemicals, general studio supplies and a limited use of inks.
MATERIALS AVAILABLE FOR STUDIO USE
Copper plate: $0.20 / square inch. + tax
Linoleum block: $0.18 / square inch + tax
Sommerset Paper: $5.00 tax included / 22″x30″ 250g watermarked.

YOUTH PROGRAMS
A focus of Spark Box Studio is to assist regional youth to build their artist skills and become aware of career options within the arts. Spark Box Studio provides resources on such topics as fine art programs, applying to art school, and starting a small arts business.
Art School Guide
The Art School Guide is a resource site developed by Spark Box Studio to assist individuals who are interested in applying for post secondary education in the arts. This site has listings of fine art programs, information on documenting your work and helpful suggestions for developing your portfolio.
Youth Volunteer Program
Another way Spark Box Studio is dedicated to assisting regional youth is by offering a volunteer / mentoring program. These positions are intended for youth between 14 and 21 years of age. Volunteers will mentor under the studio director to assist in operating the studio, build on their artistic skills and learn about business management within the arts.

Each month Spark Box Studio offers art and craft workshops. This page displays our upcoming and continuing workshops. We are always open to new ideas/suggestions so feel free to email us. We understand that these workshops may not meet your current interests so we also offer private art lessons.

August Workshops
MONOPRINTING
Learn the basics of printmaking to create images with ink, paper, copper and an etching press. No two prints are ever alike. You will learn several printmaking techniques through this course: mixing inks, drawing with inks, operation of the press, and understanding how inks transfer to paper. There are no rules- monoprinting is about experimentation with new materials. This is a great course for someone who has never done printmaking.

SCREEN PRINTING
Learn how to turn any image into a fine art print. Silkscreen is a versatile print media that is easy to learn. Using water based inks we will teach you how to turn a drawn or digital image into print. The great thing about silkscreen is that you can print on paper or fabric. Use your image to make cards, print on bags or t-shirts.

PRINT-O-MANIA
This course will give you an introduction to three different print techniques: intaglio, relief and silkscreen. Participants will be taught one method each week and go home with their own print. This course is going to give you a lot! Make your own cards with relief printing, create your own pattern for t-shirts or towels with silkscreen or make an old fashion print for you dearest friend with intaglio.

PINHOLE CAMERA
In this exciting workshop participants will create their own pinhole camera. As a group we will go out and capture images of county landscapes which will be developed in black and white at the studio. Everyone will bring home several mysterious black and white images.

RELIEF PRINTING
Discover the art of relief printing in our introductory workshop using linoleum. This hands-on printing method will have you carving your image into the lino block and hand printing your work leaving you with a fully realized print. Relief prints can be created with ease while still leaving with something that looks amazing in the end! Plus the prints can be used as stamps on paper or fabric!

FIGURE DRAWING
Figure drawing has always been a cornerstone to artistic training and can be useful to both the beginner and professional artist. Join us for our newly improved life drawing course in a bigger and better space. Evenings will consist of both short and long poses, with nude and costumed models. PRIVATE ART LESSONS
Spark Box Studio offers to teach private art lessons. These lessons are structured on individual needs, abilities and schedules. Are you interested in creating your own prints or learning to draw from life? Have you been interested in signing up for our classes but the dates just don’t work for you? Lessons can focus on etching, silkscreen, linocut, monoprint, figure drawing, still life drawing, art fundamentals or any thing else you want to learn.
$45 + tax / per 2 hour session / per person.
